How To Prepare For A Post-Lockdown Holiday

Now that the lockdown restrictions are finally being lifted, you may find yourself thinking about booking up your diary with trips away.

However, before you dust off the suitcase and head off on your travels, it’s important to stop and think about your oil tank.

While it may be the last thing you want to think about right now, keeping your oil tank in tip-top condition before you go away will ensure it stays trouble-free during your holiday

Here are three of the key things you’ll need to do before you start raiding the bathroom cabinet for that leftover sun cream from last summer’s holiday.

1 – Let Your Neighbour Know.

As with your home, it’s always helpful to let your neighbour know you’re going away for a little while, so they can keep an eye on it.

In doing so, you’ll have somebody readily available to keep an eye on your property while you’re away. If you’re happy to provide them with a key as well, they’ll also be able to come over every once in a while to make sure everything is functioning as normal.

2 – Unplug Your Appliances.

Unplugging appliances is vital for both saving money and staying safe, due to the potential fire risk they have when left on. Therefore, to prevent any unwanted fires, turn them off before you go away.

While we’re not saying you need to unplug every single appliance, you should unplug as many as you feel necessary. Make sure you leave the fridge on though – the last thing you want is to come back from your travels to a lot of mouldy food.

3 – Check Your Heating.

Avoiding a massive energy bill while you’re away should be a priority. Therefore, save yourself a load of money by switching off your heating before you head off, or use your thermostat’s ‘away’ option if it has one.

Plus, make sure to keep the oil level of your oil tank topped up before you go away. Having a fuller tank will avoid moist and condensation building up and, since you aren’t needing your heat right now, it’s actually cheaper to top up in the summer than the winter.
