New and Replacement Oil Tank Installations
Not sure whether you need a repair, a replacement or a brand-new tank? It’s usually time for a new installation if your tank is cracked, corroded or leaking, is coming to the end of its serviceable life, no longer meets regulations, or you’re moving to oil heating or relocating the tank. Tell us what you’re dealing with and we’ll advise on the most sensible option.
New Installations
Whether it’s a new build, a first oil tank or extra storage, we manage the complete installation. Our expert team of oil tank installers can help you choose the right tank, type and position, prepare a suitable base, fit the tank and connect the oil supply line, then test everything before we leave.
Replacement Installations
Replacing an ageing or damaged tank is our most common job. We transfer and filter any usable oil, remove and responsibly dispose of the old tank via our oil tank removal service, lay a new base if one is needed, and install your new tank, often within days of your survey.
Emergency and Urgent Replacements
A split, a leak or an empty tank in the middle of winter can’t wait. We respond quickly to assess a damaged tank, make it safe and limit the risk of a spill, then get you back up and running as soon as we can. If you spot a problem with your tank, get in touch and we’ll prioritise it.
Plastic and Steel Tank Options
We install both plastic and steel tanks, in single-skin and bunded models, and we’ll recommend the right one at your survey.
Plastic (DESO) Tanks
Lighter, cost-effective and easy to look after, and a reliable choice for most homes.
As one of the leading suppliers of DESO tanks in the South East, we can match you to the right model and capacity.
Steel Tanks
Our own steel tanks are manufactured in Littlehampton and built to your exact measurements.
They’re ideal for awkward spaces and heavier-duty use, and known for their strength and long life.
Choosing the Right Size
Domestic tanks are typically 1,000 to 2,500 litres. The right capacity depends on the size of your household, how much oil you use and the space you have. We’ll help you weigh it up so you’re not refilling too often or paying for capacity you don’t need.
Customers Trust SG Tanks With Their Oil Tank Installations

Our Oil Tank Installation Process
Every installation starts with a free, no-obligation site survey. We check access, assess the best position for the tank, confirm the base and pipework requirements and recommend suitable options, then give you a clear written quote, usually the same day.
Our process is simple:
- Site survey: we assess access, position, base and pipework and recommend suitable tanks.
- Written quote: a clear, itemised quote, usually the same day.
- Installation: base work and tank fitting by our OFTEC-registered team.
- Test and handover: we test the installation, check it’s running properly and leave the site clean and tidy.
Why Choose SG Tanks for Oil Tank Installation?
Experienced Installation Team

We’ve installed oil tanks across the South East since 2004, so we understand the practical challenges of getting a tank in safely and correctly.
Complete Installation Service

We manage the whole process, from survey and base to fitting, connection and removing your old tank.
OFTEC-Registered and Compliant

All work meets OFTEC and Building Control standards, so your tank is installed safely and signed off properly.
Local Specialists

We regularly work with customers across Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire.
Positioning and Compliance
Where your tank can go, and how it’s supported, is governed by OFTEC and Building Regulations, covering things like safe distances from buildings and boundaries, a stable non-combustible base, and whether a bunded tank is required.
You don’t need to get to grips with the detail. As OFTEC-registered oil tank installers, we assess your site, position the tank correctly and make sure everything meets the standards. If your preferred spot won’t work, we’ll explain why and suggest the best alternative.
Difficult Oil Tank Access? We Can Help
Not every tank sits in an easy spot. We regularly install where access is restricted, including:
We regularly help customers with:
✓ Limited driveway access
✓ Tanks positioned behind properties
✓ Narrow side returns
✓ Back gardens and enclosed spaces
✓ Tanks a long way from the house, needing a trenched oil line
Our experience allows us to assess the practical challenges before work begins and recommend the safest approach. Our custom steel tanks can be built to fit spaces a standard tank won’t, and we always plan the safest approach before work begins.
What a Typical Installation Involves
From start to finish, we handle:
- Preparing or renewing the base as needed
- Supplying and fitting your tank
- Connecting the oil supply line and pipework
- Transferring and filtering any usable oil from your old tank
- Removing and responsibly disposing of your old tank
- Testing the installation before we leave
We’ll set out exactly what your job needs, along with anything extra such as fittings, gauges or security, in your quote.

Oil Tank Installation Costs: What Affects the Price
Every site is different, so we quote per job after a survey rather than work to a fixed price list. The main things that affect the cost are:
- Tank type, size and material (plastic or custom steel, single-skin or bunded)
- Base work, including whether a new concrete base is needed
- Access, such as difficult or long-distance positioning
- Oil line length and any trenching required
- Removal and disposal of your old tank, and transferring existing oil
- Any extra fittings, gauges or security
You’ll get a clear, itemised written quote with no obligation to go ahead. For a fuller breakdown of what a new tank can cost, see our guide to the cost of replacing a domestic oil tank.

Oil Tank Installation FAQs
We keep disruption to a minimum. On a replacement we transfer your existing oil and reconnect the system, so in most cases you’re back up and running the same day. We’ll talk you through the timings beforehand.

Often, yes. A risk assessment decides. Bunded tanks are required on most commercial sites and many domestic ones, for example when storing 2,500 litres or more or siting near a watercourse. We’ll assess this for you as part of the survey.
In some cases. A domestic tank up to 3,500 litres can be installed inside if it’s bunded and housed in a fire-rated chamber with proper ventilation. We’ll advise what’s possible at your survey.
Most domestic oil tank installations don’t need planning permission but do need to meet Building Control standards. We handle the compliance side as part of the job.
